Bankrupt: The Intellectual And Moral Bankruptcy Of Today's Democratic Party
With his trademark bull's-eye analysis and common sense, David Limbaugh provides a sobering-and shocking-portrait of a Democrat Party too morally and intellectually bankrupt to serve our country.Reviews:
A Tour de Force by David Limbaugh, detailing in entertaining prose the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of the Marxism that animates the modern DemocRatic Party.
this is a very good read the Democrats are found wanting in this book. all the lies and backstabbing. you will find out that the democrats can't ever be held responsible with the country until the secular progressive are driven out. brilliant read highly recommend it!!!!!
This book offers no one an opportunity to undergo an epiphany in regards to one's personal ideology. It is not a book claiming to present some new, untold, or uncovered insight into the political depravity of the Democrats. What the book provides is a brisk retelling of the obstructionism that has become the bedrock upon which the current democrat party rests. Simply stated, Limbaugh manages to recounts the Democrats recent inability to offer any constructive new policies, or meaningful opposition. If you are a democrat, I am truly sorry for the absence of any news ideas among your fellow travelers. It must be rough to stomach the fact that you stand for nothing other than hatred of W. Limbaugh highlights the fact that the democrats stand for little more than that, and in doing so, portrays one of the key reasons that Congress is failing to accomplish any one of the pledges it made in the 2006 campaign.
Three stars, but just barely.I thought it was time for a political book, so I got this one and "The I Hate Republicans Reader". In some ways they are similar; each tries to demonize the opposition, and each picks awide variety of areas or topics to attack. They also differ greatly. This one does a better jobof sticking to issues; there are no attacks on appearance, accent, or walk. There is no explicit reason given for writing the book, but a blurb on the back of the dust jacketsays "Don't ever, ever be tempted to vote for a liberal, even as a protest vote." Convincing you totake that advice seems to be the purpose. Some topics have a better case than others. Limbaugh makes a strong case for lying and hypocrisyby Democrats about Iraq. We do not have to agree with Bush about what to do there tomorrow, to seethat the complaint is justified. Similarly, Democrats claimed Social Security was in a crisis statewhile Clinton was in office, but now say there is no problem. Voluntary, partial privatizationmight not be the best and exclusive solution to the problem, and it is certainly not the onlything that might be done to make the system solvent in the long run, but claiming there is noproblem is no solution.Court appointments have been controversial. Claiming Pickering was a racist while the NAACP saidhe was not is certainly immoral. Some other nominations seemed the opposition was claiming noblack or Latino could possibly be conservative, or honest. Still others blend into the politicalbackground. Politics is a tough contact sport and people will get hurt, even decent people.Limbaugh mentions that the Democrats were successful by merely threatening filibuster, but doesnot adequately chide the Republicans for their cowardly behavior of not calling the bluff.Other areas are covered. There are usually some good examples of liberal perfidy, just as the otherbook has examples of conservatives acting badly. There are other examples that come close to abelief that it is evil to have a different opinion. You can check Limbaugh's claims. There are 57 pages of notes. Some, however, are references toopinion pieces rather than documentation of facts. This is a trick used by advocates on both sides. You can also use the book to try to convince others that particular views you happen to sharewith Limbaugh are the best possible view. The table of contents is detailed enough to be useful and the index is eight pages of three columns in tiny type. You can find a topic if you want torefresh your memory of one side's view. The other book is much worse. I wish I could recommend a balanced book that had all claimedfacts as real facts and presented the arguments of both sides fairly, with equal fervor. I can't.
Wow.....are they traitors, or are they here to fool us...apparently both answers are correct. This book says it like it is...with facts supporting the information that will scare you into not being a DEMOCRAT.great reading.....
The Democratic party of John Kennedy differed from its Republican counterpart more in degree than in kind. Both believed in strong national defense and in reducing the national deficit. That Democratic party is long gone and in its place is a cabal of politically correct appeasers who see creeping socialism rather than tried and true capitalism as the bulwark of America. In BANKRUPT, David Limbaugh depicts a party that for the last four decades has surrendured the right to speak for America. Limbaugh notes that this decline began with the advent of the Vietnam War. That war heralded the rise of an anti-war crowd that began to infiltrate colleges and universities, first as junior faculty members, then as tenured professors, finally culminating as department chairs who made sure that their search for diversity was limited to race and gender. Political diversity now in 2007 simply does not exist on most campuses. Those graying 60s hippies who did not go into teaching went into journalism and television, with much the same result. Limbaugh traces the sure ascension of a radical leftist Marxist world view that is now firmly esconced in our legal system as well. By the time George Bush the Younger won the White House in 2000, the battle for the heart and soul of America had been going on for nearly twenty years with the left winning with Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and the right with Ronald Reagan. With Bush, however, the political landscape changed from issues to demonization. Limbaugh depicts a Democratic world view who offers no solutions to the many problems of the age other than demonizing the very man who stands as the hellish symbol of all that they see as demented. Bush is less a man than the reincarnation of Hitler and Satan. Limbaugh also sees the concomittant demonization of Bush's inner circle of advisors as a natural outgrowth of a vitriolic hatred that marks the left as surely bereft of ideas that guaranteed their defeat in 2000 and 2004 and promises much the same in 2008, regardless of those who run for the presidency. In BANKRUPT, one can see from the book's cover the smiling faces of the left who promise only to turn the United States into a politically correct socialist state that now reigns nearly everywhere in the West. David Limbaugh is trying mightily to preserve America as the country that did not use to fear calling itself words and phrases that John Wayne might have used in any of his films from an earlier and more patriotic age.
"The oldest continuous political party in the world is bankrupt," writes author David Limbaugh in a book entitled, not surprisingly, "Bankrupt: The Intellectual and Moral Bankruptcy of Today's Democratic Party". It's hard to disagree with his statement. I mean, look at the fools capering around with a 'D' after their name. Ted Kennedy? Bill and Hillary Clinton? Howard Dean? Chuck Schumer? Al "The Sky Is Falling!" Gore? C'mon, man! Who can look at that rogue's gallery and NOT see red flags popping up all over the place? Look at the cover of the book. This is a group of folks you'd expect to see in one of those crime family flow charts. This isn't a political party; it's an assortment of losers espousing crackpot ideas that should have no place in the public sphere. At the very least, any decent thinking person ought to laugh their ideas right off the stage. The global warming crowd, the 9/11 conspiracy kooks, the religion haters, the neo-paternalist race baiters, and a host of other tin foil hat wearing creeps cling to the Democratic Party like lice to a gorilla's scalp. It's embarrassing to live in a country where people like this expect others to take them seriously.Limbaugh, the brother of radio personality Rush, details the depths of bankruptcy on every page of this book. Where to start? Oh, yeah--George Bush is the spawn of Satan. That's it in a nutshell, really. The modern Democratic Party spends nearly all of its time and energy trying to derail the career of a president they consider a war criminal, a fascist, a liar, and a shill for corporate America. It's all here in the opening chapters of the book. The infamous "sixteen words" Bush spoke about Iraq seeking nuclear fuel in Africa. Then there's the imbroglio over weapons of mass destruction, or lack thereof, in Iraq. And don't forget the TWO stolen elections. The first came in 2000 when Gore contested the Florida election. The second came four years later when Ohio decided not to support John Kerry's presidential bid. More than fifty million other Americans looked at John Kerry, laughed heartily, and voted against him, but the Democrats know in their hearts that the evil Bush and the even more evil Karl Rove stole that election. Right. And then they threw all the democrats into prison. Oh, wait. That didn't happen. The rest of the book discusses democrat "values" and the problems they have with Bush's colleagues. Anyone with a half a brain knows the only values held by the Democratic Party are the lack of values. They promote the perverse as normal, scoff at the religious, and undermine the judiciary with the laughable conception of a "living" Constitution. It's all aimed at destroying America by undermining her institutions. But what's even worse, as Limbaugh shows, is that the movers and shakers in the party are out on the campaign trail trying to convince Middle America that they have values. Then he moves on to the hit jobs the democrats have been pulling on Bush's inner circle. Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Rove, and others have all taken numerous cheap shots from the democrats, except when the crybabies had to seek professional counseling after Bush won the 2004 election. We're seeing the fruits of their labors now as cooked up scandals about Walter Reed and the obnoxious Valerie Plame fuel the fires of the long hoped for impeachment. Too bad someone forgot to tell these dolts that Bush leaves office in January 2009, and he'll leave with a record far better than Bill Clinton's.As the reader moves through the book, one overriding theme becomes glaringly apparent: the Democrats have politicized every aspect of life. They've turned the Iraq War into a political circus. They've crafted name-calling, race-baiting, and class warfare into a weapon of mass destruction that they subsequently unleashed on the entire country. Gone are the days when democrats actually proposed ideas. Ideas are boring and, quite frankly, everyone in the world knows these losers haven't had a new idea in years (let alone one that actually works). What does one do when they don't have policy proposals? Resort to the sort of screeching, vitriolic diatribes we hear on the news and read in the opinion pieces in the newspapers. After reading this book, it's obvious that the level of hate emanating from the mouths of the left elites corresponds roughly to the absence of ideas. As their old, tired ideologies succumb to failure after failure, they get louder and louder. Instead of dealing with issues such as the looming insolvency of entitlement programs, for example, the democrats just want to blame everything on George Bush. That's how they'll get back power, and it partially worked in November 2006.Whether the politics of division will succeed in the future is up for debate. It wouldn't if more people read this book. Limbaugh does a fine job of showing the utter vacuity of the Democratic Party. He's weaker when it comes to pointing out Bush's real flaw. It has nothing to do with the war or the economy and everything to do with illegal immigration. President Bush thinks it's acceptable to leave the borders wide open. So do the democrats. If the immigration problem continues to spiral out of control, we're going to have far more difficulties than arguing about some war or what value system the nation needs. We simply won't have a country left. On this issue, I'd say the Republican Party has a bankruptcy problem of its own that they should deal with before the next presidential election. Immigration aside, I'd say David Limbaugh's book is a good addition to the bookshelf. It's well argued, nicely researched, and fun to read to boot.
Republicans have no reason to talk down to Democrats when we are now worse they are. Ted Haggard, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales, Ann Coulter, Rush and the rest of the crew are worse than any Democrat. David Limbaugh is laughing all the way to the bank with this junk. I felt like I was actually getting dumber when I was reading this.
I enjoyed this book largely because of it's vitriolic humor. Mr. Limbaugh has selected a bunch of quotations from the left wing of the Democratic party in an attempt to smear the whole party with a label of having no basic ideas except an abject hatred of President Bush. Rarely have I read a book that had so many things with which I absolutely agreed, or so many things with which I absolutely disagreed. Yes he is right in that a basic litany of the left is: Bush lied (They can't accept that the CIA, the British MI-6, the French, German, Russian, Israeli, Australian and more intelligence agencies were simply wrong.). Bush stole the election (Both of them. They can't admit that their wonderful, insightful, brilliant, etc. candidates just simply lost). and there are other points as well. But then Mr. Limbaugh says (page 99): 'The Left impugns conservative Christians as science-rejecting...' Let's see. There's about 150 years of science studying/proving evolution and the conservative Christians are pushing un-intelligent Design. Yup, the left is right on this one. The Democrats are ahead of the Republicans on several issues: energy (hey guys, we're really running out of oil), global warming (it's real, it's now), health care (poll after poll says we want something better than what we have now for the 47 million uninsured). The Democrats have: lost the coalition that put Rooseveldt/Johnson et al into office, they have to find a new one; the left wing of the party selects the candidates that then have a very difficult time reaching the center of the country where most of the voters are. We're beginning the race for the next Presidential election. It'll be fun to watch.
What Daniel Flynn's "Intellectual Morons" did to expose the intellectually and morally bereft in academia (see my review of this book,) David Limbaugh's "Bankrupt" exposes in the Democrat Party and (to a lesser degree) the liberally-biased mainstream media. In this easily readable work underpinned with solid citations, Limbaugh chronicles the duplicity, hypocrisy, deceit and arrogance of the Democrat Party on such diverse subjects as the Iraq War, the economy, values, judicial nominations, race, class - and especially in its dealings with the Bush administration. He also demonstrates how the mainstream media picks up on the Democrats' cue for any given issue, and supports them unquestioningly. Limbaugh's thesis for the entire book can be summed up by his astute observation, "Whether it's the War on Terror, Social Security, the economy, race relations, disaster relief, values issues, national security, or the judiciary, Democrats have all but abandoned policy advocacy, and focused exclusively on thwarting President Bush's agenda." He then proceeds to prove his point by citing the Democrats' own words and actions against them. So extreme and consistent is their attempt to thwart Bush that it even threatens the country. Limbaugh observes, "For Democrats, it was all politics, all the time, irrespective of the detrimental impact to our national interests."This book is a must-read for those who want the clear, concise, distilled truth of Democrat machinations over the last six years. It is a shame a copy of this book wasn't sent to every household in the nation before the 2006 elections. It may have successfully countered the selective reporting and outright lies of the Democrat Party and the mainstream media which induced the American electorate to vote with their glands instead of their brains. Now that the election is over, those who were roiled into voting Democrat by their propaganda may want to read this book just to see how duped they really were. It will make the duped angry, but it may keep them from making the same mistake again.
This is thorough research. This is not just some pathetic opinion by someone with an agenda. This is a total indictment of the left, from politicians and pundits to the media. And it's all done with their own quotes! David Limbaugh is one of the greatest current events writers of our time. I don't know any author who so thoroughly researches what he writes. I would love to see a liberal book with this kind of bibliography, but I'm sure I never will. Do you consider yourself a liberal? I dare you to read it.
David Limbaugh's research is very exhaustive and his arguments are compelling and convincing. No one today gives a better and more honest view of the real agenda of the liberal Democratic Party in America. If you enjoy Ann Coulter you will enjoy David Limbaugh.
Bankrupt by David Limbaugh is another excellent book about the political climate in our nation by an author who is thoughtful and intelligent. If you only read one political book this year, make it this one. Limbaugh accurately assesses the ups and downs of 2006 in an analytical and smart way. He writes with flair and a wide vocabulary. One of the reasons I so enjoy reading his books is that he refuses to engage in the name-calling or bigotry that shames many other conservative writers. Limbaugh may not make good television like Ann Coulter does, but he also gives liberals far less to argue with. He lambasts them using their own words, and I'm sure after reading the book, many are ready to eat them. The only small flaw in the book is Limbaugh's optimistic attitude about the (at the time of writing) upcoming November elections. Republicans were not able to keep control the way he predicted. Bankrupt shows the Democratic Party the way it truly is: lacking morals and backbone. The behavior they support and applaud in each other, they attack in conservatives. They switch sides and opinions depending up on how the wind blows. This book should be a wake-up call to both the Democrats and the American people.
Here's a quote from David Limbaugh's most recent Human Events Column: "The Framers understood that foreign policy must not be conducted by committee, which is why they made the president -- not Congress -- the singular commander in chief."What the hell? The framers believed in something called "separation of powers," not concentration of power in the executive branch. Mr. Limbaugh would have us living under a freakin' dictatorship!
On the theory that one should seek to understand both sides of an argument, I picked this up at the library. David Limbaugh fails to make an argument. He presents many quotes by democrates sounding hawkish on Iraq, as though that obsolves Bush from making a disasterous decision. He provides many many quotes of democrats saying bad things about President Bush, and makes a big fuss about "Bush-haters", as though that somehow proves democrats are "bankrupt" (Remember the republican reaction to Clinton!). Democrats certainly have their faults, but this is hardly a useful contribution to the general debate. Typical Limbough myopic rhetoric. If you compare this work to Woodward's Denial or Tom Hick's Fiasco, in terms of scholarly or journalistic research, Limbough's book is overrated with one star. Actually, after the first few pages it's really quite boring.
Politicians are morons. I know it's wrong to make generalizations about groups of people, but if there is a generalization that comes close to reality it's this one. I don't know of anyone who likes politicians, which makes them an easy target for criticism, and they deserve it. When you have a group of people who have done so much damage to our country, it's fun to point out their inconsistencies and inaccuracies. That's exactly what David Limbaugh has done in this book. Granted, he has focused on the Democratic Party, but it doesn't make the reality of his book any less realistic. Yes, I'm sure someone could write a similar book about the Republican Party (and I'd like to see it), but I doubt it would encompass 436 pages.Within those pages, Limbaugh points out numerous examples of contradictions, double-talk, misinformation, dangerous hyperbole, double-standards, baseless accusations, hate speech, cheap political ploys, name calling and fear mongering all perpetrated by today's Democratic Party. In the process, he shows how that party has evolved into a terror appeasing, anti-American, race baiting, class warfare inducing, socialist political group. And the best part about it is that David Limbaugh accomplishes all of this by using the words of the Democratic leaders themselves, complete with over thirty pages of references. No, this isn't an opinion piece as much as it is a documentary narrative detailing, in their own words, what the Democratic Party has become today. Whether talking about the economy, the war on terror, immigration, race, taxes or any other major political issue, the Democrats have demonstrated (again, in their own words) how truly petty and political they can be and where their priorities lie (no pun intended). The only thing about the voters this party cares about is their vote, and they will do anything and say anything to get that vote, regardless how damaging or inaccurate that may be. Of course, the Republicans may do the same thing, but this book isn't about Republicans.I recommend this book to anyone with an open mind who truly loves America and seeks the truth in American politics, especially independents like myself. Conservatives and O'Reilly traditionalists will appreciate this book as well. Those of you on the hard Left shouldn't bother. If you read it then you will no doubt attack Limbaugh for being inflammatory, biased and divisive, which will probably please him since it will basically confirm the premise of the book, and I'm sure you wouldn't want Mr. Limbaugh to be pleased about anything.
David Limbaugh hits the nail on the head. Americans voted the Democratsback into power after 12 years, but if they do not get realistic, theAmerican voters will vote them out in 2008 and elect a Conservative Republican as President. The Democrats have no solutions to any of our nation's major issues and problems. Their only solution to everything is "it's Bush's fault." They can get by with that now because of the Iraq war, but in the long run they need to provide much better leadership than their current legislators appear to be able to do.
Unfortunately, not enough voters read the book.MH
Good reading. As with all of David Limbaugh's books, it is well written and interesting.
David Limbaugh takes us through the way the Democrats have waged their political fight with George Bush since his election. It is not surprising that he has found them wanting in character, reason, principle, or anything like an actual plan in dealing with the issues of our day. Obviously, if you support the Dems you will be upset with this book or ignore it completely. And if you are a supporter of Bush and the GOP, you will find what Limbaugh has to say confirming to your view of the world. This book is unlikely to change someone confirmed in his or her support of either camp. I know that many people like to read books to get riled up and others read to confirm what they already believe. These are the main target customers for this book. And it is quite a good read. However, there are quite a few people who are waking up to the way the big city newspapers, network "news" shows and other of what Rush Limbaugh calls the drive-by media and Laura Ingraham calls the dinosaur media are obsessed by a view of things that blinds them to their bias in helping the Democrats promote their political agenda as if it were actual journalism instead of opinion and boosterism. For these people, this book can be quite valuable. It lays out between two covers all the things that have been done and said to undermine the Bush Presidency. After you read this book, you will be better able to see and judge the sheer phoniness of much of what the Democrat leadership positions have been since 2000.Limbaugh has organized the book in three parts. The first part has three chapters on the current scene and how the Democrat leadership has compromised themselves to the point of being ridiculous. The next six chapters in Part II show the methods of the political fight the Democrats have tried to wage in trying to get back power (will it work?).Part III has five chapters demonstrating the pervasive hatred of Bush on the left and the way that obsession has been used to try and gather power and has resulted in a more extreme Democrat party. Of course, Limbaugh has a conservative perspective and if you stand significantly to his left you will probably become more than irritated at him. However, I enjoyed the book and think that anyone who wants to refresh themselves on exactly what the Bush haters have done since his first election in 2000 (which the left still denies as valid), this is a very good book to help you do that. And if you are trying to find out what has been going on in our politics to get us to this polarized state, this can be a great place to start.
Okay, I'm conservative, but I found this book... disappointing at best, and only gave it 3 stars. The book is a rehash of the insanity of liberals in America today, and how the Democrats are making fools of themselves pandering to said libs. We all know that. If you agree with Limbaugh (and I do), the book is preaching to the choir. If Democrats would read it, have an epiphany and say, "Oh my gosh, we're being foolish and destroying America," that would be another. They won't. So this book does no good except make the conservatives feel warm and fuzzy. Besides, I felt that the only real meat of the book was in the last two chapters. Liberals are dangerous... in the long term, they are as big a threat to America as the terrroists. Democrats are foolish not to divorce themselves from the libs and move closer to the center. This book would help, but ONLY if you get a Democrat to read it. Fat chance.
David Limbaugh, with this book, has done the country a great service by detailing the desperate times the Left in this country finds themselves in and he does it by quoting them continuously as they search for a way to become relevant and to return to power.Out of ideas and out of power are a tough combination for today's Democrats. Their leadership has been diminished by the types of people who have aspired to it, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and their other spokesman on national issues, Charlie Rangel, Dick Durbin, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Jack Murtha, Chris Dodd and Charles Schumer, to name a few find it necessary to invent false issues and then talk about them as though they are true.Their conduct would be disappointing at best if we were not at war. Of course, that seems to be one of the underlying thoughts to much of what they say. They say they believe that the Bush administration has actually ginned up all of this jihadist talk. They ignore the attack on us and focus on our invasion of Iraq. They fret about how we gain intelligence about our enemy and they openly threaten to undermine the efforts in Iraq if they could only take power. They also try to talk the United States into recession at a time when the economy his hitting on all cylanders. America must suffer defeats and despair for their version of how to govern it is to work. This book, if read thoughtfully will make you very angry. And that is as it should be, because you do not have to accept Mr. Limbaugh's view of things. He uses their own words to hang them and they seem eager to supply him with ammunition. There was a time when it didn't make that much difference as to which party was in power. You knew what the emphasis of each party was and the nation survived quite nicely so long as people of general good will were in charge. However, those days appear gone for good as the Democrats try to tear down America in order to advance their cause. It is a losing strategy and a very dangerous game which lies fully exposed in this book. Those that give it one star are just a small part of the Left's effort to discredit the author. They are as transparent in their criticisim as those Mr. Limbaugh writes about. He deserves our thanks for taking them on in such a devistating manner.
I am giving this book 3 stars because I couldn't choose a "no rating" evaluation. I am the narrator for the audiobook version of David Limbaugh's book and just want to say that this book like all books should be read carefully and thought about carefully. There is much to think about and discuss regarding the ideas and opinions expressed here. The divisiveness in some of the reviews and between our two major political parties is a waste of time. Children on the playground. Read this book, read others, research, think and act. Thanks for reading this book.
If an author choses to write a politcally charged novel, there will be bias. What I look for is some balance in the arguments. But, like his brother Rush, David writes with blinders on and misses the obvious contradictions in his arguments. The Democrats are not like Republicans! Of course not. The current Republican party is overwhelmingly an ideological, lock-step plutocratic mob who won't tolerate open discussion of an issue. Democrats on the other hand are diverse, open minded and welcoming of new ideas and thoughts. David Limbaugh would have you believe that is chaos. Open, intelligent discussions are what is missing in the Republican party right now.A book does not have to be well written to put across the author's theme, and the ideas he is promoting, but when it is dully written, poorly researched and obvious in its misinterpretation of issues and situations it is difficult to give it much credence.Basically I have read this book before, several times. There is nothing new, in fact it sounds like a few days of Rush on the radio, usually wrong and overwhelmingly insulting to anyone who can think for themself. So, all I see here is an poorly written dull diatribe of the same old propaganda from the right - "Don't confuse us with the facts we already have been told what to think."
I can only rate this book 3 stars because I have not yet read it. I just ordered it at the library. None of the one star reviewers has read it either. They hate conservative thought and just blast the book. If they had the power, they would ban this and all conservative books. Liberals, you gotta love 'em.Once I read it, I will post a review.
